The Territorial Industrial Ecology Approach in the Spotlight
The Territorial Industrial Ecology (TIE) Gathering was held on 8th October, bringing together a group of public- and private-sector players and attracting over 70 participants to the IDEA Group’s premises at Montoir de Bretagne.
The professionals gathered with a twofold objective: to present the findings of the SEITISS study of inbound and outbound material flows to the players in Nantes ‒ Saint-Nazaire Port’s industrial and port activity zone, and to structure the next stage in the process and the implementation of the most appropriate synergies.
The morning-long event was also an opportunity to share projects and initiatives that are fully in line with the TIE approach adopted by Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port and Saint Nazaire Urban Area District Authority since 2014.
A number of projects were presented: the Loire Estuary biogas plant and the Hymoov and GHAMA projects (Frédéric Thiollier of IDEA Group), the deployment of CARBON Up (Nicolas Fordos of Airbus Atlantic), the project to replace clinker in cement manufacture (Jean Sarazin of EQIOM), and the Cocorico project (Tristan Lucazeau and Vincent Chevreau of Cargill).
The participants were also able to hold discussions at workshops on local, renewable energy loops and the industrial and urban heating network.
The event was headed by Jean Michel Buf, Chair of the French National Circular Economy Council and Regional Councillor for the Pays de la Loire Region with responsibility for the circular economy, Éric Provost, Senior Vice-Chair of Saint Nazaire Urban Area District Authority with responsibility for agriculture, the environment, biodiversity, the large water cycle, contractualization and cooperation, and Sophie Cochard-Quesson, Director of Planning and Development, Environment and Real Estate Assets at Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port.
Via the ADELE Association, Loire Estuary Decarbonization is piloting around twenty strategic projects as part of the low-carbon industrial activity zones initiative by ADEME, the French National Agency for Energy Transition, with the aim of creating a more circular economy that decarbonizes itself, reduces its impact on the environment, and consumes less and better when it comes to the planet’s natural resources.
