France’s Largest Electricity Storage Facility Sited at Cheviré
The French subsidiary of British company Harmony Energy has chosen the Cheviré port area as the site of its future 100 MW capacity storage facility utilizing TeslaMegapack technology, which will store 200 MWh of energy and be the largest battery electricity storage facility in France.
"The facility will be able to draw and to release the equivalent of 2 hours of electricity to supply power to 170 000 homes. These will be the first batteries of this capacity ever to be installed in France," states Harmony Energy.
The work commenced this summer, and the facility is expected to come on stream in the winter of 2025.
"Energy transition is a reality for Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port. This is illustrated by the fact that the Port accommodates sectors of activity such as marine renewable energy and hydrogen. Ramping up this process of transition to meet the climate and energy challenges we face also involves experimenting with innovative energy solutions in the Port Authority area. We are delighted to be adding a new stone to this edifice by welcoming Harmony Energy, one of Europe’s leading energy storage companies, to Cheviré, where it will be setting up the largest battery electricity storage facility in France," was pleased to say Jean-Rémy Villageois, Chair of the Management Board of Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port.
