EOLE

Work is progressing on the Éole project, the aim of which is to anticipate the development of floating offshore wind power. A few months ago, Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port launched the first on-site studies to provide an industrial and logistical integration base for this up-and-coming sector of activity.

The project consists in developing a linear section of quay measuring over 750 metres in length and reinforced to bear more than 30 tonnes per m², complete with XXL plant and equipment to handle cargo consignments weighing several thousands of tonnes, as well as a tidal berth for floats that will be able to receive the new generation of jack-up vessels.

Several Studies are AnticipatedPart of the technical feasibility studies should be completed in the last quarter of the year. Additionally, in a few weeks’ time the Engineering Directorate is going to be launching digital modelling work on the impacts that the Éole project could have on road and maritime traffic, and on the project itself. Expected in the first quarter of 2024, the findings will make it possible to identify the improvements that may have to be made. Also coming up soon are a modelling study regarding the stability of the floats and wind turbines in the integration phase, as well as the consultation phase to prepare for next year’s public discussions…
