Shipment of MAN Engines to Turkey
At the start of 2024, MAN Energy Solutions signed a contract to produce 48 dual-fuel (diesel/gas) engines destined to equip the Karpowership Group’s fleet of powerships.
The first twelve engines were shipped from Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port to Turkey at the end of November. At the Quai des Charbonniers quay in Saint Nazaire on 31st December, a new shipment of 12 engines was loaded aboard the cargo vessel Happy River, which is equipped with two cranes, each with a capacity of 400 tonnes. The handling operations were carried out jointly by teams of personnel from SOGEBRAS and Groupe IDEA. A fine example of the coordination and know-how of the logistics and port-based specialisms.
These new engines will power the Karpowership Group’s fleet of powerships, vessels that have been transformed into floating power stations to enable electricity to be generated in certain regions of the world where land-based infrastructures are inadequate or lacking.
