Completion of the Improvement Work on Avenue de Penhoët

20 March 2025
Saint-Nazaire

Avenue de Penhoët, an essential thoroughfare used daily by the many employees who work for companies based in the Saint Nazaire industrial and port activity zone, has just completed six months of work on 24 March.

The first phase of the improvement work was carried out between 2023 and 2024 by Saint Nazaire Urban Area District Authority, in coordination with Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port’s own teams. Led by Nantes ‒ Saint Nazaire Port, the work operations began in October 2024.

Repair work on the heavy-duty roadway in the Port Authority area

The heavy-duty roadway is designed to allow the passage of heavy-lift or XXL cargo consignments, particularly during loading or unloading from Quai des Charbonniers quay or during transfers between different industrial facilities in the activity zone. The Port’s customers (Chantiers de l'Atlantique Shipyard, MAN Energy Solutions and others) use both the heavy-duty roadway and the railway line.

The doubling of the railway track

The original railway line, which has been in existence for around a hundred years, has been completely renovated and a diverted track has been created. The main user of this section of the port-based rail network is ArcelorMittal. The second track will make it possible to develop new opportunities in the activity zone.

System installation and marking of the cycle path adjacent to the heavy-duty roadway

This work has enabled the installation of lighting on the heavy-duty roadway side and the routing of the rainwater system under the future cycle path.
